Visa queues

Period: 1918–1945

Visa applicants needed to provide confirmation of political reliability from the German Social Democratic Workers’ Party. These confirmations were issued at the headquarters of the German Workers’ Association in the street Ve Smečkách, giving rise to queues of several hundred meters long, as Olga Sippl remembers.

This guided walk is a part of the “Democracy on the Brink. Historical lessons from the late 1930s” project supported by the Europe for Citizens programme of the European Union.
