The German Social Democrat refugees needed help when they first arrived in Czechoslovakia. Someone had to take care of them, and above all to find them accommodation in the city. Later they also needed to find work. For this purpose the Social Democrat Refugee Aid was created, its office being in the building of the Czechoslovak trade union headquarters. The organisation’s work was possible only as the result of support from the German Social Democrat Workers‘ Party in Czechoslovakia (DSAP), the Sudeten German social democrats. A number of members of the party, which was a sister party of the German Social Democrats, SPD, made regular montly contributions to help the refugees.
